Dean O'Connor Bio

Dean O’Connor returns to serve as the Bishop Feehan Varsity Boys Basketball Coach. During his time at Feehan, O’Connor has guided the Shamrocks to a record of 46-35, winning two league titles and twice qualifying for the State Tournament.

Having coached for 22 seasons at the varsity level Coach O’Connor brings a wealth of knowledge and decades of experience to Feehan. Prior to becoming a Shamrock, Coach O’Connor spent 3 seasons as Varsity Boys coach at Weymouth High School (2016-2018) and 15 seasons as Varsity Boys coach at Franklin High School (2000-2014). Over the course of his coaching career O’Connor has compiled a record of 311-180 including eight League Championships (2002, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2012, 2020, 2021), and his teams have qualified for the State Tournament 17 times, reaching the District Finals in 2006 and 2014.

Coach O’Connor has been recognized for numerous coaching awards. In 2014, he was named the Metro West Daily News Coach of the Year, in 2012, he was awarded the Mass Basketball Coaches Association D1 South Coach of the Year, The Boston Herald D1 South Coach of the Year and the Hockomock Sports Coach of the Year. In 2009, O’Connor won his first Metro-West Daily News Coach of the Year. In  2018 his Weymouth team was recognized with the MIAA Team Sportsmanship Award.

Coach O’Connor has a reputation for both player development and as a mentor to assistant coaches. He has helped develop over 20 players to play at the collegiate level including two full scholarship players. He has also had four assistant coaches progress to become varsity head coaches. Coach O’Connor believes strongly in the team first approach and teaching life’s lessons through the game of basketball.
